Oona Finds an Egg by Adele Griffin -- ADVISABLE

Griffin, Adele Oona Finds an Egg (The Oodlethunks #1), illustrated by Mike Wu. Scholastic Press, January 5, 2016. $12.99. Content: G.

Oona wants a pet for her Stone Age cave, but her parents won't let her have one due to her brother's allergies. So when she finds a giant egg while out playing, she rolls it back home and convinces her parents not to reject it until they find out what's inside. But then the egg disappears while Oona is at school. Can Oona find the egg in time to protect whatever's inside from whomever may have taken it?

This book is not meant to be an accurate representation of history, but is instead a wacky tale based loosely on prehistoric times -- with plenty of modern sensibility, copious humor, amusing illustrations, and a few wily dinosaurs. The action and adventure throughout are likely to keep girls and boys alike turning the pages, as will the mystery of what's inside the egg.

EL -- ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Caryn
