Maggie Malone Gets the Royal Treatment by Jenna McCarthy and Carolyn Evans -- ADVISABLE

McCarthy, Jenna and Carolyn Evans Maggie Malone Gets the Royal Treatment (Maggie Malone #2), 208 pgs. Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, 2014. $6.99. Content: G.

Twelve-year-old Maggie Malone is sick of being ordered around by her middle school's queen bee, Lucy St. Claire. Naturally, when she hears about a royal wedding on the other side of the globe, she can't wait to don her (mostly) magical boots and become the gorgeous Princess Wilhelmina. Unfortunately, Wilhelmina's got a mean girl in her own life, and it's one Maggie isn't sure she's prepared to go up against.

The second book in the series is just as fun as the first, with its insights into a world many middle-grade readers would love to visit if only they had magical boots of their own. Maggie is an especially fun character to travel with, as she's smart and resourceful and genuinely kind, while not being so perfect that she's unsympathetic. While both the middle school and Wincastle plots were wrapped up a bit too quickly and easily to be completely satisfying, this was still an enjoyable read that would likely do well on many library shelves.
