Pennyroyal Academy by M.A. Larson - ESSENTIAL

Larson, M.A. Pennyroyal Academy, 314 p. Putnam (Penguin), 2014.  $17.

Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG (fantasy clashes).

Pennyroyal Academy has been opened to anyone - you no longer have to be a prince or princess to attend.  The girl from the forest (to be known as Evie) knows that his is her destiny, but even the journey to the academy is dangerous - even with the help of Prince Remington, she almost dies.  Princess lessons are nothing to laugh at, because at this academy, princesses learn to rescue themselves.  There is no allowance for slackers and though being kind is a princess value, everyone seems to turn a blind eye at Evie’s tormentors.  Evie, however, has a special secret - one that will cause copious amounts of grief, but also be their savior.

When I looked at the author blurb and found out the Larson is a man, I was stunned.  He has written a wonderful, kick butt girl book.  I haven’t even told you a 10th of this awesome story.  Buy it, read it, enjoy.
