Nighty Night! by Margaret Wild - ADVISABLE

Wild, Margaret, Nighty Night! PICTURE BOOK. Peachtree Publishers. 2001 (reprint 2014). $7.95

As the sun goes down, Mother Sheep, Father Duck, Mother Hen, and Father Pig call their little ones home for bed. When she goes to kiss her baby lambs goodnight, Mother Sheep finds the baby chicks instead! They laugh, and Mother Sheep scolds them, “You little rascals!” Likewise, Father Duck finds piglets instead of ducklings, Mother Hen finds little lambs instead of chicks, and Father Pig finds ducklings instead of his piglets. The little ones think this game is a blast, but the parents aren’t amused. Once all the babies are in all in their proper beds, the games begin again. Some want a story, others have to go to the bathroom, and some need a drink. Wise to their little tricksters, the parents say, “No more tricks now.” “Settle down.” “Snuggle up.” “Sleep Tight.” “Nighty night!”

This is a fun and silly book that will tickle kids and their parents alike. Young readers will delight in the silly little tricksters, while parents will smile at the well know attempts at delaying bedtime. The beautiful illustrations capture the story wonderfully and are a perfect companion to this uniquely clever story about bedtime.
