In the Rainforest (Let’s read and find out Science) by Kate Duke –ADVISABLE

Duke, Kate In the Rainforest (Let’s read and find out Science) 40 pgs. HarperCollins, 2014. $17.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G. NON-FICTION
A wonderful tour of the rainforest that reads like a journey as the children start off packing and taking a flight. Both the children in the book and the readers learn a ton about the plants, animals, and insects. There are lots of visual comparisons such as rainwater shown in cups to compare temperate climates to rainforest climates.
With direct ties to common core curriculum, this book is an easy add to your school library collection. Although I wish the artwork was sharper and more beautiful it does a great job of being harmonious and stuffed with little interesting creatures. I think students will really relate to the various little comparisons, which are very smart and interesting. The way that difficult terminology is introduced and explained is masterful. I wish there was a bit more about conservation and how children can help.
