Patti Cake and Her New Doll by Patricia Reilly Giff-OPTIONAL

Giff, Patricia Reilly Patti Cake and Her New Doll. Illustrated by Laura J. Bryant. PICTURE BOOK. Scholastic, 2014. $16.99.  Content: G. Patti Cake is getting big and now has a new room and a new big bed.  But her first night alone in her new room was a little scary and a little lonely.  Patti Cake’s babysitter took her shopping the next day to buy something to celebrate her new room.  Immediately Patti Cake falls in love with a doll that has a smudge on her face and is therefore on sale.  The words “ON SALE” are written on the doll’s box.  Patti Cake thinks On-Sale is the dolls name and immediately falls in love with her.  On-Sale becomes the focal point of Patti Cake’s day and the two enjoy fun adventures together.  The illustrations are adorable and tell a wonderful story.  The story is cute and sweet but really didn’t keep our attention. Pre-K.  EL (K-3). OPTIONAL. Reviewer: SL.
