Mama built a little nest by Jennifer Ward -ADVISABLE

Ward, Jennifer and Illustrated by Jenkins, Steve Mama built a little nest 40 pgs. Beach Lane Books, 2014. $17.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G
A melodic rhyming introduction to a wide variety of bird’s nests. Includes factual information to each side. Some examples are Falcons, Cuckoo, Penguin and many more. Featuring collage style illustrations by Steve Jenkins. Don’t get me wrong, this book is a work of art. I know that there is great love for Steve Jenkins in the library community. But in my humble experience, given the choice students will pick a book with real images of real animals, every time, over illustrations. All of the Jenkins non-fiction books in my library remain unchecked out for this very reason. The text is fun and interesting, just wish is came with real pictures, so students would check it out more. Teachers love to use books like this as a teaching tool, so it’s still advisable to pick this one up.
