Lou! Down in the Dumps-OPTIONAL

Neel, Julien, Lou! Down in the Dumps. Lerner Publishing, 2012. Pgs. 48. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: PG

Lou is feeling depressed. Her best friend/boyfriend hopeful has moved. Her BFF, Mina isn’t talking to her. Her mother is too busy making out with her boyfriend. Lou still has a friend in Paul, a boy she met at her grandmother’s house in the country. If only she could get the courage up to write him a letter in reply to the one he just sent her. Can Lou make her life make sense again and get back a friend?

A cute, quick read for reluctant girl readers. The characters are fairly likable, even though they’re one-dimensional. The story if funny and enjoyable. The pictures are colorful, fun, and complement the text well. Readers who like realistic fiction, graphic novels, and friendship fiction will enjoy reading this book. EL (4-6), MS. OPTIONAL.
