Dark Lord by Jamie Thomson - ADVISABLE

Thomson, Jamie Dark Lord, 336 pgs. Walker Books for Young Adults, 2012, $16.99. Language: ( 0 swears  0“f’) Mature Content: G; Violence: G.

Dirk Lloyd is really The Dark Lord, who, defeated in battle against the White Wizard falls from the sky and lands in our world in the body of a 12-year-old boy, with no powers at all.  No one believes he is an evil overlord.  Social Workers, psychiatrist, foster parents, even his Principal assume that he has amnesia and has taken on the persona from a comic book or video game.  Dirk’s only hope of returning to his plane is to get the other children at school to help him devise an evil plan.

This is a sure-fire hit for gamers and computer lovers.  Thompson combines his story with Dirk’s journal entries and illustrations.  Kids waiting for the next Wimpy Kid will not be disappointed.  Upper Elementary/Middle School - ADVISABLE.  Reviewer: Lisa Media Specialist.
