Possession by Elana Johnson - OPTIONAL

Johnson, Elana Possession, 405 p. Simon Pulse, 2011.  Language: PG-13 (50 swears, 0 ‘f’).

Violet Schoenfeld has broken the rules one too many times.  Now the Thinkers are hauling her in for Lock Up.  Society has matched her with Zenn, but when they throw her in with Jag, another prisoner, Vi finds out that there may a whole other life that is better for her – away from mind-control, strict society and nightly brain-washing.

Its too bad that the society in this book is so poorly described that it is difficult to figure out the structure.  Unsophisticated readers will enjoy it just for the love story and the danger, but your better readers will be left cold.  Vi is back and forth and all over the place (I guess that is just like a teenager), in her emotions and her actions, feeding right into the fact that everything she does is being controlled by everyone around her – even those she should be able to love and trust.  I would suggest Uglies over this any day.
