EL, MS – ESSENTIAL

While Cassie’s brother if off in Iraq, her life is falling apart.  Parents fighting, sister rebelling, little brother withdrawing, abandoned by her ‘friends’ at school.  When her teacher tells them to find the blog of someone who lives in another country for an assignment, Cassie finds Blue Sky, a girl near her age who lives in Iraq – whose world literally is falling apart.  Communicating with Blue Sky may help Cassie put a little of her own world back together.  Sullivan does a brilliant job of bringing in many sides of war.

I was drawn in to Cassie and her struggles, but my heart went out to Blue Sky, who is the human side of the people we are “liberating” with our modern wars.
