Best of the Best by Tim Green-ADVISABLE

Green, Tim, Best of the Best. HarperCollins, 2011. Pgs. 263. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G

Josh Leblanc is an excellent baseball player. He helped his team win the U12 National Championship and get a Nike sponsorship. His life isn’t perfect, however. After looking at houses with a real estate agent, his father announces his divorce to Jake’s mother. When offered a position on the all-star team’s Little League World Series, he hopes the games will provide him with an escape from his family problems. Before he can add another trophy to his shelf, however, he will have to step up and become a leader for his team. Will he win the Little League World Series? Will he be able to cope with his parents’ divorce?

The characters are likable and believable. The plot is fairly well-developed and interesting. Readers who like sports, baseball, and realistic fiction will like reading this book. EL (4-6). ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
