Polar Exploration by Beau Riffenburgh - OPTIONAL

Riffenburgh, Beau Polar Exploration: The Heroic Exploits of the World’s Greatest Polar Explorers.  59 p. Carlton (Royal Geographic), 2009.  $30.  NON-FICTION.  DO you know someone who is fascinated by exploration – especially those first brave souls who faced the arctic regions?  This is an adult-level version of “-Ology” books, with much more detail and lots of pull out artifacts.  From Charles Hall’s attempt for the North Pole and Shackleton’s expedition across Antarctic, many turn-of-the-century adventurers are included.  If this is a subject that is covered in your school, then this would be a good reference source to keep around for the teacher.  The material is too detailed for an elementary or middle school, however.  GIFT – OPTIONAL.
