I’m Big by Kate and Jim McMullan –ADVISABLE

McMullan, Kate and Jim I’m Big 40 pgs. Balzer + Bray, 2010. $11.55 EARLY READER
When a sauropod gets lost, separated from his herd, he doesn’t know what to do. He uses his long neck to search from high, but just runs into a flock of pterosaurs. When he searches low he finds something much worse, scary predators. Can he face his fear and continue on his search?
The best part of this book is that the main character looks right out of the book, to the reader, to ask for help. This immediately draws the reader in and endears you to the search. The simple text revealed a fun plot and showed a lot of personality. The watercolors were warm and well done. Although not a great book for learning about dinosaurs it would make a great read-aloud for a story time program, since there is a lot of places for emphasis and large simple art. I think a new reader would enjoy this book.
