Ghost Hunt by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson-ESSENTIAL

Hawes, Jason and Wilson, Grant Ghost Hunt (Chilling tales of the Unknown), 304 pgs. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2010. $11.20. Violence: PG
This book is fictional right? (gulp!) Well, it’s a collection of ghost stories based on the real life investigations done by Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), so you decide. They conduct investigations into potential paranormal activity on their popular TV show Ghost Hunters, so students will know them. Almost each story starts with a paranormal event told from a children/pre-teen perspective which draws the reader in. When TAPS team is called, the story switches to their perspective, and the reader finds out more about how a ghost investigation is carried out. Includes an in-depth Ghost Hunt Guide.
This was an excellent read, I simply could not put it down (I was too scared to get up anyway). The writing style was engaging and easy to read, all while maintaining a happy balance between informational tidbits and dialogue. I found all the characters, especially the TAPS team to be well written. The best part is the Hunt Guide that makes up a large portion near the end of the book. It is extremely informative and brings investigating down to an obtainable level for youth. I think students will be thrilled. You will be lucky to get this one back and you find yourself being forced to sponsor a ghost hunting club at your school.
