Selfish Elf Wish by Heather Swain

Swain, Heather Selfish Elf Wish, 283 p. Speak (Penguin), 2010.  $7.99. Language: G (3+swears, 0 ‘f’).  Zephyr is excited to have her cousin Briar in New York City and at her high school with her instead of back in Alverland.  But Briar is obsessed with one particular boy and seems to be happy using magic whenever she wishes, instead of trying to blend in.  And Timber is not treating Zephyr like a girlfriend, even though she thought they had a understanding.  And mean girl Bella is out of rehab and back to steal the limelight away from anyone who stands in her way.  But there is something more dire that high school politics in the waiting – and the heart of Alverland may be in danger.  I am so very happy to revisit Zephyr and her extended family and friends.  I don’t know if we’ll see more of Zephyr, but I hope that we hear from Ms. Swain again soon.  MS – ADVISABLE.
