Caterpillar, Caterpillar by Vivian French

French, Vivian Caterpillar, Caterpillar, illustrated by Charlotte Voake.  PICTURE BOOK. Candlewick, 2009.  $8.99.  Language –G; Sexual Content –G; Violence –G;  With the help of her Grandfather, a little girl learns firsthand about a caterpillar’s development.  The little girl is curious about what happens next, and has a loving and patient grandfather who walks her through each stage of development.  The illustrations are simple and beautiful.  Any study of caterpillars would benefit from adding this book to it’s unit.  There is also a 19 minute companion CD included for children to listen to at a listening center.  We loved joining the amazement of finding the tiny dome-shaped eggs, watching the caterpillar shed it’s skin and finally watching the pupa transformed into a beautiful butterfly! EL- ADVISABLE. Reviewer: SL
