I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912 by Lauren Tarshis

Tarshis, Lauren, I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912. Scholastic Press, 2010. Pgs. 96. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G.

In this fictional account of the Sinking of the Titanic, readers follow young George and his sister Phoebe as they’re sailing across the seas back to America after visiting their Aunt Daisy in England. When the ship gets hit by an iceberg, George finds himself separated from his aunt and sister. With the crew of the Titanic racing against time and him, George must find a way to survive as well as get back to his family.

A slightly humorous, suspenseful adventure. Whil maintaining the historical accuracy of this event, the author has still done a great job of creating a good plot and well-developed characters. Young readers, parents, and teachers alike will appreciate and enjoy this novel. EL (K-3). ESSENTIAL. Reviewer: Kira, Youth Services Librarian, HUN Public Library.
