The Fortunes of Indigo Skye by Deb Caletti - NO

Caletti, Deb The Fortunes of Indigo Skye, 298 pgs. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.

Language-R (100+ swears and 33"f's"; Sexual Content-G; Violence-G

HS - NO

Indigo has everything she wants at the moment: a good job, a cute boyfriend and pretty good home life. One day a mysterious man gives her 2.5 MILLION dollars!! Wow!! So what's a girl to do now? She tries to give it back, but he insists on her keeping it. That's when in comes the new cars, cell phones, TV's, and clothes. She gets quite a few warnings that the money will change her, but she doesn't think it will happen to her, but then it inevitably does. What matters most changes when she realizes that she can't have everything she wants through money.

Caletti has mastered this writing thing. She produces wonderful books, but just needs to cut down on the swearing; it was unneeded. It wasn't that fake or too-good-to-be-true kind of writing you find in a lot of YA stuff now. Definitely worth the read, but there is so much swearing that any public school shouldn't touch it.
